Short festivities like Poila Boishakh brings with it the much needed pleasurable break from our hectic work life, and what could be a better way to spend this short break than to rejuvenate and relax on the lap of nature, away from the hustle bustle of the city, on the banks of the mighty Ganges, flowing far and wide.

Raichak on Ganges is one such idyllic place, which lies just 50 kms south of Kolkata. A 90 minute drive will take you to this riverside resort nestled in the fishing village of Raichak, which is blessed with lush green pastures, fresh air, swaying trees and beautiful vistas of the river Ganges, all together exuding the countryside charm of Bengal. Whether I have been there on work or leisure, this place always had a soothing effect on me. The tranquil surroundings and the bountiful nature with the river in its full glory had enliven my spirit and mind on each visit to this place.

This luxury resort, comprising of The FfortRaichak, which is a fort themed hotel and Ganga Kutir, a boutique resort and spa, offers ample options to unwind and indulge in the breathtaking view of the river and the surrounding rolling greens from every corner, a refreshing change of scene for a city dweller like me. Each elegantly done rooms opens up to the riverscape and luxuriant landscape below. It’s a real treat for the soul to be greeted by the lively river lashing against shore accompanied with a gust of fresh river breeze as you step into your very own private balcony complete with deck chair and table for enjoying your cup of tea.

Besides its proximity to nature, the resort also offers all  modern amenities for a fun-filled holiday such as clubs, outdoor sports, pools, spa, cafes, library, restaurants, bars for recreation, but nevertheless its maintains a sublime ambience for maintaining the prevailing tranquility of the natural surroundings. Though a host amenities is available for staying engaged, a true nature lover like me would prefer taking long walk through the sprawling lawns and spend quiet time at the gazebo at Ganga Kutir, at the very the edge of the river, watching the river flow by in the vast horizon while soaking up the fresh river breeze and the surrounding serenity for hours.

Raichak on Ganges is one place which allows you to be one with the majestic river. Whether you are reading book at the library or enjoying your favourite drink at the bar, the river won’t get out of your sight. The dining experience is equally delightful here. One could opt for open-air dining by the beautiful riverfront or dine at one of the in-house restaurants with the shimmering river in the backdrop.

And the end of the day when you retire to bed, you could hear the blowing river breeze whistling against your glass door, wishing you good night.
