Mystery Masterpiece Pen – Mont Blanc & Van Cleef & Arpels
This pen was launched in 2008 as joint creation by Mont blanc and Van Cleef & Arpels. Mont Blanc, one of the most renowned luxury pen makers, was established in 1906, and so was the jewellery store Van Cleef & Arpels. As a mark to celebrate their 100th anniversary both created this marvellous piece of art.
Mystery Masterpiece is one of the most expensive writing instruments ever created at $730,000. Each has 840 diamonds and more than 20 carats of gemstones with a gold nib. Van Cleef & Arpels have set these gems in its distinguishing and patented Mystery Setting that hides the stone settings. Apart from the fact that the diamonds are radiantly cut and set, there are five marquise-cut diamonds and 58 baguette-cut diamonds. The cap has a crown that shows Montblanc’s trademark – a white star in scintillating diamonds. Only nine of the pens have been created so far – with variations in ruby, sapphire, and emerald.

Price: $8 Million
Most expensive in the history of pens ever sold! Based on the concept of sacred geometry, this is probably the most original pen ever made. Italian penmaker Tibaldi had always excelled in proportion, aesthetics and technical implementation but this time he took it new levels by imitating Mother Nature. The whole pen is based on the Divine Proportion of Phi. When it is closed, one will find that the ratio between the cap and the barrel equals exactly 1:1.618. Only one piece was made and it sold at $8 million in a charity auction. Apart from its design the writing instrument is also studded with brilliantly cut 945 black diamonds and 123 rubies.
