Prabodh Chandra Dey whom we know better as Manna Dey was born on 1 May 1919. He made his debut in Tamanna with the song Upar Gagan Bishal. He has sung more than four thousand songs. The Government of India has awarded this talented phenomenon with the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and then the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Manna Dey had been singing in different fifteen languages – Hindi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Magadh, Maithili, Punjabi, Assamese, Odia, Konkani, Sindhi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Nepali. He has also given his voice to the famous Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s Madhushala.
Manna Dey wrote his autobiography in Bengali called Jiboner Jalsaghorey. It was translated into multiple languages. In English it is called as Memories Come Alive. In Hindi it is named as Yaden Jee Uthi and in Marathi as Jivanacha Jalasagarat.
Later a documentary was made on Manna Dey’s life in 2008 called the Jibaner Jalsaghore.
